POSITION: View Complete Inclusive Community Assistant (ICA) Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The Inclusive Community Assistant is responsible for assisting students individually and in groups. The ICA’s primary role is to facilitate the creation of a positive residential environment which supports students’ transition, academic, and personal success. For this environment to develop, ICAs must build intentional connections with residents and guide them to resources on-campus. Strategies for success include possessing a thorough knowledge of campus resources, planning and implementing diverse activities, leadership development, and responding to community and individual concerns.

  • What are the requirements to be considered for the ICA application process?

    1. You must have lived in the residence halls (CSU or another school) for 2 semesters at the time you start your job. If you are first-year student, you can apply for the 2018-2019 academic year.
    2. Applicants must be in good academic standing with the university; a GPA of 2.5 is preferred. Student staff are expected to meet this requirement and maintain it during their period of employment.
    3. Must be a CSU student making progress towards your degree.

  • What steps do I need to take to become an ICA?

    • Read all information online pertaining to the application process, review the job description, and ask questions to make sure you understand the position.
    • Fill out this form; we will contact you as soon as our application and more information is available.

  • Do I get to decide where I am placed?

    You may express a preference; however, we do not guarantee the hall in which you will be placed. We determine placements based on need for the individual communities and the department overall. We are not looking for a “certain type” of person for the ICA position; our residents have different types of personalities, backgrounds, and experiences, and our goal is to build a staff that can connect and work with a variety of students and student populations.

  • When will I know if I am being offered an Inclusive Community Assistant position?

    You will be notified in the Spring of the status of your application and, if offered a position, your letter will be emailed to you at the email address you provide. Each offer for hire will be contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

  • If I accept an offer as a Residence Life Student Staff position (RA, RHA/NRHH, CDM), am I still eligible to be selected as an ICA?

    Student staff may only hold one of the following positions at any given time: RA, ICA, CDM, RHA/NRHH. Offers for all student staff openings will occur at the same time and students must select the offer that best suits their interests.

  • Is training required?

    Yes, training is required for all Inclusive Community Assistants. Attending all orientation and training dates are required and will not be excused unless clearance has been given.. Being unavailable for student staff training dates could impact your application and selection as an ICA. Training typically occurs beginning the first week of August.

  • What is the remuneration for the ICA position?

    ICAs receive an on-campus room and on-campus meal plan during the time of employment. Please note if you receive financial aid, the remuneration of this position may impact your financial aid reward. Please talk with someone in Financial Aid for more information.
