Residence Director

Each residence hall is under the supervision of a Residence Director (RD) and an Assistant Residence Director (ARD). These are individuals who are trained to assist and advise students as well as administer the operation of the residence hall and are either working on, or have a Master’s Degree in Student Affairs or similar field. Their responsibilities are many, including the enforcement of University rules and regulations. The RD and ARD work with the Resident Assistants (RA) to help you develop and maintain an environment that promotes academic, personal, cultural, and social growth in the residence hall. This staff works closely with other staff, such as the Community Desk Manager, the Environmental Services staff, maintenance personnel, and Dining Services workers. All help to make your residence hall a great place to live and learn.

The on-campus interview for Residence Directors is an opportunity for you and our department to learn more about one another. If you are selected for an on-campus interview, we hope you learn more about our Residence Director position, University Housing, Housing & Dining Services, CSU, and the Fort Collins community during your visit!

Below is a typical on-campus interview schedule. Please note some scheduling may be different depending on availability of staff and schedules:

Day before your interview:

  • Arrive at Denver International Airport (DIA). We will help you make arrangements for a shuttle to take you to the Hilton in Fort Collins. Fort Collins is about 90 minutes from DIA.
  • Enjoy dinner and a visit to Old Town Fort Collins with some of our professional and graduate student staff members.

Interview day:

  • Enjoy breakfast with University Housing staff.
  • Meet with our Executive Director for Housing & Dining Services.
  • Meet with our Director of University Housing.
  • Meet with members of the Search Committee.
  • Connections Interview – meet with a number of Residence Life staff members, HDS, and other offices on campus.
  • Lunch and Campus Tour with our student staff members and student leaders.
  • Diversity & Social Justice Interview –  meet with staff that work closely with this pillar (Coordinator for Diversity and Inclusion and staff from the Student Diversity Programs and Services offices on campus).
  • Learning Interview – meet with our academic partners.
  • Professional Development Interview – meet with some of our current Residence Directors and Graduate Assistants.
  • Wrap up – meet with the Coordinator for Selection, Training, and Development to reflect on your day.
  • Dinner – another night on the town with some of our great staff.

A furnished apartment is provided for the Residence Director of each hall on campus.

Residence Director homes are furnished two-bedroom apartments with an exterior entrance. All apartments have a private washer and dryer. We provide a standard set of furniture including a couch, chair, coffee table, dining table and chairs, full-sized beds, dressers, and night stands.  If you are bringing any furniture with you, we can store university furniture elsewhere. Additionally, we provide opportunities for staff to visit our campus warehouse to view available inventory.

  • Remuneration commensurate with experience
  • Two-bedroom furnished apartment
    • choose up to three paint colors
  • One adult (spouse/partner, adult guest) may reside in the apartment with you, as well as any children or legal dependents
  • Meal plan is provided when the dining halls are open; a partial meal plan is provided for spouse/partner/adult guest. Children ages one to five receive a meal plan at no cost, and children ages six to seventeen receive 1/3 reduction in the cost of board.
  • We also have a pet policy; ask one of our staff for more information.
  • CSU offers Domestic Partner benefits.
  • $1,750 in annual professional development funds
