Summer Resident Assistant (RA)

The Summer Resident Assistant (RA) is a live-in student staff member with University Housing, Housing & Dining Services that supports the University Housing mission:

“We strive to create vibrant and inclusive communities throughout students’ on campus housing experience which enhance learning, personal and social growth, and global engagement”.

RAs also support Colorado State University’s Principles of Community: Inclusion, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Social Justice.

Responsibilities

Summer Resident Assistants will be assigned to Summer Session housing as their responsibility for the summer term. The Summer RA will have responsibilities in community development, safety & security within the residence hall, and assisting residents/guests individually and in groups. The primary role is to facilitate the creation of a positive Summer Session residence hall environment which supports students’ transition, academic, and personal success. Summer RAs agree to uphold University policies and present a positive image of Colorado State University to residents and guests.

Position Responsibilities

Community Development
1. Assist residents/guests in understanding community standards and in accepting responsibility for floor/individual issues.
2. Facilitate community meetings at the beginning of each 4-week session. Utilize various strategies to encourage residents’ engagement on campus and contribute to their success.
3. Facilitate programming that connects students with each other to support the Summer Session experience.
4. Mediate conflicts between residents/guests.
5. Establish and maintain an environment that is supportive of successful academic achievement.
6. Encourage students to utilize campus resources and work in partnership with other departments on campus.
7. Maintain a high profile in the hall when working; be approachable and receptive.
8. Maintain on-going interactions and conversations with residents/guests individually and as a community.
9. Know names and pertinent information about community residents/guests.

Diversity and Inclusion
1. Create a respectful community in which students’ stories are honored and all identities are welcome.
2. Utilize and promote activities and strategies that contribute to increasing students’ multicultural competence.
3. Work cooperatively with students to understand Housing & Dining Services’ commitment to diversity, and CSUs Principles of Community both by respecting the rights and privacy of others and being supportive of individual differences.
4. Help students learn about/know about diversity resources on campus.

3. Respond to and document maintenance concerns in the building.
4. During emergencies, record and relay information to the appropriate staff members and agencies. This includes, but is not limited to, fire alarms, rescue calls, severe weather notices, and police calls.
5. Carry a departmental cell phone and share in the responsibility for safety and security of residents/guests/guests through building safety walks while on call. On-call hours are typically between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., or when the front desk is closed
6. Serve as a resource of information for students, guests, staff or others via phone, one-on-one interaction, and during security walks.
7. Assume responsibility for informing and educating students about their rights and responsibilities as students and hall residents/guests/guests. Communicate residence hall policies and procedures, expectations concerning standards of student conduct at Colorado State University, as well as the possible consequences resulting from a violation of stated policies and procedures.
8. Know about, respond to, and follow up on hall emergencies/procedures, policy violations, and know appropriate staff and resources to contact.
9. Support and adhere to University and Housing & Dining Services policies, regulations, and procedures.

Staff and Administrative Functions

1. Attend required staff training activities as needed (staff training schedule to be determined)
2. Attend scheduled weekly staff meetings (staff meeting schedule to be determined)
3. Assist with hall and administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor, and where appropriate.
4. Actively support other members of the staff; work collaboratively as a team, while honoring social distancing guidelines.

Conditions of Employment
1. Must be able and willing to be work during the entire period of employment
a. Saturday, May 11, 2024, to Monday, August 5, 2024.
2. Be available and willing to attend the required staff training activities. Anticipated dates for staff training are Monday, May 13, 2024, to Friday, May 17, 2024.

The Summer RA job requires both regularly scheduled responsibilities (such as staff meetings and supervisory meetings), and times staff are available and accessible to community residents. RA work time should be planned in consultation with the supervisor and the RA should be accessible to residents for informal contact, especially during high activity times (typically 4:00 p.m. to midnight)
9. Be eligible to work in the United States. RAs are responsible for ensuring their eligibility to fulfill their role while remaining in compliance with all University, State, and Federal work regulations
10. The State of Colorado has an at-will employment policy. This position may be revoked by the University at any time and for any reason
11. Summer RAs are University employees and must abide by all University policies, including University Housing policies and the Student Code of Conduct.

Required Qualifications:
1. Hold good academic standing with the University; have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 (undergrad) or of at least 3. (graduate)
2. 15 or more completed credit hours at time of application
3. No current or pending disciplinary incidents (prior incidents are not a disqualification, but all prior cases must be closed by time of hire)
4. Eligible to work in the U.S. up to 20 hours per week
5. Enrolled at CSU for the Summer 2024 and/or Fall 2024 term

Preferred Qualifications:

    Under the general supervision of the Summer Session Housing Residence Director (RD), the Summer Session Housing RA will have responsibility in community development, safety & security within the residence hall, and serving as a resource to the residents. This position is designed to enrich and support Colorado State University through various activities relating to our Summer Session Housing program and conference guests to campus. RAs will provide information and programs, be a resource for students and guests, ensure building safety, and present the positive spirit of Colorado State University.

    2. RAs must be enrolled at CSU during their period of employment. You do not need to take classes, but must be enrolled for the Fall 2020 semester.
    3. RAs must live on-campus during their period of employment in the room provided.
    4. RAs must be in good academic standing with the University; a GPA of 2.5 is preferred.
    5. During period of employment, RAs may be enrolled in summer classes in consultation with the Summer Session Housing RD.
    6. RAs must have completed at least 15 credit hours and have lived in a residence hall for one semester at the time of hire.
    7. First semester RAs may not student teach or hold internships. Experiences which will take the RA away from their building for significant time blocks are discouraged, and must be approved by the Residence Director and Coordinator before they are accepted.
    8. It is understood that an undergraduate student staff position in the residence halls cannot easily be translated into hours worked per day or week because of the unique nature of the work. The RA job requires both regularly scheduled responsibilities and times at which staff is available and accessible to floor residents. RA work time should be planned in consultation with the supervisor and the RA should be accessible to residents for informal contact, especially during high activity times (typically 4:00 p.m. to midnight).
    9. Remuneration is a single room with board while school is in session, including 21 meals/week during the employment period.

  • Summer Session Community Desk Manager (CDM)

    Summer Session Housing Community Desk Manager (CDM)

    The Summer Session Housing Community Desk Manager (CDM) is a student manager position with University Housing, Housing & Dining Services. The CDM assists in supporting the University Housing mission: “We strive to create vibrant and inclusive communities throughout students’ on campus housing experience which enhance learning, personal and social growth, and global engagement”. CDMs also assist in supporting Colorado State University’s Principles of Community: Inclusion, Integrity, Respect, Service, and Social Justice. The CDM oversees the operation of the Summer Session Housing community desk and ensures high-quality customer service to our students, families, and guests; supervises Desk Staff Members; and, assists in creating an inclusive community within the Summer Session Housing residence hall.

    Responsibilities

    The Community Desk Manager supervises the community desk including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating the desk staff collaboratively with the Community Desk Coordinator and Summer Session Housing Residence Director (RD). The CDM ensures the community desk is an effective resource for students and guests to gain information about campus and community resources. The CDM ensures mail and packages are managed in accordance with federal and state laws and any department/University policies. The CDM position is supervised by the Community Desk Coordinator.

    The CDM position is a 20-25 hour a week position.

    Position Responsibilities

    Supervision

    1.Conduct hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of desk staff in accordance with University Housing’s mission statement.
    2. Participate in University Housing and Housing & Dining Services required trainings, while encouraging participation of desk staff members.
    3. Address performance concerns and issues in a timely manner and maintain appropriate documentation.
    4. Ensure completion and maintenance of all employment paperwork including evaluations, disciplinary documentation, and training information with appropriate University Housing and Housing & Dining Services staff.
    5. Manage Time Clock Plus database functions including approving hours.
    6. Maintain communication with staff and supervisors through emails, phone calls, and posted information.
    7. Conduct monthly staff meetings with desk staff; specifically before each 4 week period.
    8. Schedule the desk to be staffed to provide appropriate levels of customer service at varied times throughout the day and summer based on needs of the community (i.e. desk, mail, and show room shifts).

    Customer Service & Administrative Functions

    1. Support Conference & Event Services operations that may also reside in the Summer Session Housing hall.
    2. Ensure high quality customer service including answering questions, resolving complaints and issues, and referring students and guests to appropriate staff and resources.
    3. Manage and oversee logging/accountability of mail and packages to meet all federal, state, University and department laws, policies, and guidelines.
    4. Respond appropriately to hall emergencies and provide support and follow-up to staff as needed.
    5. Complete administrative duties in a thorough and timely manner.
    6. Keep supervisor informed of and assist with community, resident, and facility issues.
    7. Conduct and maintain regular inventory of desk supplies and equipment for check-out.
    8. Conduct and oversee regular key audits and the ordering of new room keys, prox keys, and mail keys as needed.

    The Summer Session Housing Community Desk Manager supervises the Summer Housing community desk including hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating the desk staff collaboratively with the Community Desk Coordinator and Summer Session Housing Residence Director (RD). The CDM ensures the community desk is an effective resource for students and guests to gain information about campus and community resources. The CDM ensures mail and packages are managed in accordance with federal and state laws and any department/University policies. The CDM position is supervised by the Community Desk Coordinator.

    The CDM position is a 20-25 hour a week position.

    Position Responsibilities

    Supervision

    1. Conduct hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of desk staff in accordance with University Housing’s mission statement.
