Room Change Request Instructions

The room change period for the fall semester will open on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 and close on Friday, December 3, 2021.

The room change period for each semester typically opens two weeks after classes start and closes two weeks before the end of the semester.

If you are interested in changing rooms to a vacant space on campus

  • Stop by the front desk of your residence hall to make an appointment to meet with your building’s Residence Director (RD) or Assistant Residence Director (ARD).  You can also schedule an appointment with your RD here.
  • When you meet with your RD or ARD, you will be able to request a move to a specific, vacant space.
  • Requests received by 8 a.m. Monday morning will be reviewed by hall staff and notifications regarding approval (and non-approval) and moving instructions will be sent via email on the following Wednesday.

If your room change is approved

  • Approvals for room changes are sent to students via email on Wednesdays for requests submitted in the previous week.  You can provide staff with the email address of your choosing when submitting your request.
  • Students are expected to complete their approved room changes between Thursday and Sunday of that same week.  This includes picking up your new keys, moving all of your personal belongings from your old assignment to your new assignment, cleaning your old space appropriately, and returning the keys for your old room to the appropriate front desk.
  • Once you pick up the keys to your new room, your assignment will be updated, including billing adjustments, by the residence halls assignments office.
  • Not all rooms are charged the same rate. A room change could result in an increase, decrease, or no change to your room costs. Before requesting a room change, students are encouraged to review the rates of our Residence Hall room types.
  • Any difference in cost between rooms will be pro-rated based on the date new room keys are received by the student.

If you change your mind

Students wishing to cancel an approved room change must do so by contacting the residence halls assignment office by calling 970-491-4719 or emailing housing@colostate.edu.

If you are interested in swapping/trading room assignments with another student, both students involved must

  • Stop by the front desk of your residence hall to make an appointment to meet with your building’s Residence Director or Assistant Residence Director or book an appointment online.

After requests are submitted, the process will mirror what is outlined above.

If no space is available

  • You have the option of being placed on a wait list.  Email housing@colostate.edu with your name, CSUID, and the building and room type you are interested in.  For example: Summit Hall, double, or Durward Hall, any room type.  (Please note, you cannot request to be placed on a wait list prior to the start of the room change process.)
